Adventure with Aly
“The needs of Black girls are often overlooked by teachers, administrators, and policy makers. This oversight has contributed to a lack of educational programming and policies that address the impact of the intersection of racism and sexism on the educational experiences of Black girls, with some attention to the achievement gap.” - Dr Shawn Arango Ricks.
The intersectionality of protected attributes is often overlooked both in mainstream media and, with equal or greater impact, within education. Racism, Sexism, and in upcoming resources, Ableism are key areas that Adventure with Aly aims to tackle through representation at an early age. As a disabled woman myself, this is something I am passionate about.
Far too often the skin color young scholars see is white, the gender is male and this is only magnified when we look at the, typically, male roles - such as explorer or leader.
Aly aims to inspire young learners to see themselves as active participants in their education and foster a love of learning.
